Film City Glasgow is a project spearheaded by Sigma Films with the support of Glasgow City Council, Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and the European Regional Development Fund. Based within the old Govan Town Hall in Glasgow, the facility comprises of a studio/build space, workshop areas, a range of production office space, accompanied by state of the art post-production facilities.
A further period of redevelopment commencing in Spring 2007 will see greater expansion, with the occupation of an additional 9,000 sq ft of office space within the premises. At this stage all 65,000 sq ft of Govan Town Hall will be under the management of Film City Glasgow Ltd.
The post production facilities within the premises are managed by leading Scottish companies Serious Facilities (picture post) and Savalas (sound post), and include fully equipped high-def edit suites, a foley studio, project sound suites, and Scotland's first Premiere Dolby Studio.
Although Phase Two of the project was only completed at the end of 2006, the facilities have already been used by Sigma Films for the feature ‘Hallam Foe’ and short ‘Trout’, Warp Films for the short ‘Dog Altogether’, STV Solutions, Wild Rover Productions/BBC, and most recently, Black Camel Productions, for the feature film ‘Outpost’. Described as an adrenaline fuelled, gore-filled action horror film in the tradition of ‘Aliens’, ‘The Thing’ and ‘The Descent’, Film City Glasgow were delighted to welcome a Scottish based production company for the first major project in the venue.
Long term, in addition to the film and post production facilities, the creation of a café bar area and between 16 – 20 office spaces in Phase 3 will provide a dynamic and synergetic environment for creative/media cross-fertilisation and collaboration at local, national and international level.
